At Thomas Archer, we’ve always held a deep appreciation for Australian art and the incredible creatives behind it. So, it’s especially meaningful when those passions align with the people we design and build for.

Recently, we had the pleasure of sitting down with contemporary artist and Thomas Archer client, Tegan Lloyd. Tegan’s work is a thoughtful interplay of colour, texture and emotion. Inspired by the Australian landscape and the quiet beauty in everyday moments, her expressive pieces reflect a fluid, intuitive process.

We loved working with Tegan on her home and equally loved hearing more about the creative journey that shapes her work.

Q: Tell us about your creative process?

Tegan: ‘I like to ease into the process with music on and a nice glass of tea, allowing the space to feel relaxed and calm. I usually begin by intuitively painting the background, exploring and playing with colour and texture and then come back in with more intentional marks as the work begins to take shape.

One of the things I love about having a home studio is being able to bring pieces into different spaces around the house. Seeing them in different light helps me understand what areas might need more work before they feel finished.’

Q: What inspires your art?

Tegan: ‘I’m really inspired by colour found in nature, especially the Victorian coastline and the hilly landscapes where I grew up. I also find inspiration in the beauty of everyday things around me such as fashion and nature.

My home studio has become a huge source of inspiration too. It’s light-filled and spacious, which allows me to create larger works. Our home incorporates lots of natural materials and that sense of warmth and texture definitely feeds into my art.”

Q: You create such beautiful abstract pieces, what draws you to create this style of artwork?

Tegan: ‘For me, painting is like therapy. With a busy family life, being able to step into my studio and paint takes me into another world. It’s calming and meditative.'

Q: What do you hope people feel when they experience your paintings in their own spaces?

Tegan: "I hope my work brings a sense of calm and tranquility. That’s what it brings to me and I hope others can feel that same energy in their own homes.”

Q: What is your advice for people when selecting artwork for their home?

Tegan: It’s so important to choose something you truly love and connect with. Think about the space it will live in and the kind of energy or feeling you want to bring to that room.

For example, in a bedroom you might want something calming, while in an entertaining space, something more playful or bold might be perfect. Art can also tell a story or become a beautiful conversation starter, it should be something that feels meaningful to you.”
